World Cup 2026 qualifying draw: Pot 3 Scotland set to discover group fate

WE are just days away from finding out Scotland’s World Cup qualifying fate.

Steve Clarke‘s men will discover on Friday which nations they will battle it out with for a place in North America in 2026.

Scotland are placed in Pot 3 for the big draw after missing out on the top two following their third place finish in their Nations League group.

It had been initially thought Scotland were certain to get a four-team group given their relegation play-off clash with Greece in March, but a recent rule change means that is no longer the case.

There is now a chance – albeit slim – that Clarke’s men could be drawn alongside four other nations after Fifa tweaked their regulations.

It means the Tartan Army could face the likes of England and Wales – despite those fixtures previously being off the cards.

A five-team group is still very unlikely but Scotland will find out for definite in just a matter of days.

And SunSport has all the details you need to know ahead of the draw.

When is the draw for the World Cup 2026 qualifiers?

  • The draw for the World Cup qualifiers will take place on Friday, December 13.
  • It has been pencilled in for an 11am start.
  • It will be held at the home of Fifa in Zurich.

What TV channel is the draw on and can I live stream it?

  • The draw will not be shown live on TV.
  • However, it will be streamed live on Fifa.com for FREE. You can also catch the event via Fifa’s official YouTube channel.
  • It will be streamed live from 11am.
  • Alternatively, you can follow all the latest updates right here via SunSport’s LIVE blog.

Who can Scotland face in the qualifiers?

  • Scotland are in Pot 3 for the draw so they will avoid all teams from the same pot.
  • As mentioned above, Scotland can be drawn into either a four or five-nation group and that will be decided on Friday.
  • The most likely scenario is a four-team group, which would see them draw a team from Pot 1, 2 and 4.
  • Should they be listed in a five-team group instead then they will also face a country from Pot 5.
