Who is available to Scotland’s free agent hunters?

From former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial to released Everton midfield duo Dele Alli and Andre Gomez and Netherlands forward Memphis Depay, ex of Atletico Madrid.

The transfer window closed on Friday, but you could still form a pretty nifty fantasy team from the list of players still without clubs this summer.

Willing to go down the veteran route, there’s Mats Hummels, released by Borussia Dortmund, fellow centre-back Sergio Ramos, who has left Sevilla, former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has exited Vissel Kobe, while ex-Italy striker Mario Balotelli has left Adana Demirspor.

Scottish Premiership clubs can only dream of attracting such big names from the list of free agents, but Rangers manager Philippe Clement and Hibernian counterpart David Gray are just two who have admitted they are considering bolstering their beleaguered squads from the ranks of the unemployed.

Not long since valued at £29.5m, former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot tops the list of those on Transfermarkt.com, but it is further down – way further down probably – where most Scottish clubs will be shopping for bargains.

Of course, there are a quartet of Scotland internationals among those – and some other intriguing names crop up too.

There’s Brandon Williams, the 23-year-old left-back who has just left Manchester United and has previously been linked with Rangers, and centre-back Filip Benkovic, who joined Celtic on a season-long loan from Leicester City and has had his contract terminated early by Udinese at the age of 27 after a loan spell with Trabzonspor.

Then there’s 32-year-old Paul Dummett, the former St Mirren loanee being linked with Portsmouth after being released by Newcastle United.

So, to whom might Premiership managers turn to fill problem positions among Scottish players or those most recently involved in Scotland’s top flight?
