U20 World Trophy: Scotland v Samoa: Kenny Murray names team for campaign opener

SCOTLAND Under-20s head coach Kenny Murray has named seven Edinburgh Rugby academy players in his starting pack for Tuesday evening’s World Rugby U20 Trophy round one match at Hive Stadium, including brothers Jerry (in his second season in the age-grade side) and Ollie Blyth-Lafferty (making his competitive debut at this level) at hooker and tight-head prop respectively.

Liam McConnell returns from injury to lead the side from blindside flanker, Geordie Gwynn has been named as vice-captain, while Conor McAlpine makes his first national under-20s appearance at scrum half.

“We are looking forward to kick starting the World Rugby U20 Trophy campaign,” said Murray. “The boys have been training hard over the past few months and just want to get out there and do themselves, their families and Scotland proud.”

“Samoa are up first and we know that they will be a tough opponent. We had a good result against them last year, but this is a completely different competition, so we must make sure we are at the top of our game when we come up against them on Tuesday.”
