Transfer News: Manchester City find potential Alvarez replacement in Scotland

Pep Guardiola’s men are reportedly considering a player in the Scottish Premiership to replace departed Argentine forward.

Manchester City are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic as a replacement for Julian Alvarez, who recently departed for Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £82million ($107m).

According to reports, City are seeking a player willing to embrace a squad role at the Etihad Stadium due to Erling Haaland being the club’s leading centre-forward. 

After careful consideration, they’ve narrowed down their options to the 29-year-old and another younger forward, as per The Athletic. Since joining the Scottish club in 2021, he has consistently contributed to their success, scoring 73 goals in 135 appearances.

While the club are currently prioritising the re-signing of Ilkay Gundogan, they are also actively considering their options for a new striker. 

Furuhashi, who has impressed with his performances for Celtic, has emerged as a potential target, and personal terms are believed to be a non-issue, given the Japanese international’s keen interest in joining City.

What comes next?

Furuhashi missed Celtic’s Scottish League Cup match against Hibernian on Sunday due to a shoulder injury, but the issue is not expected to keep him out for long.
