Toulon Golf Small Batch Scotland Putter – The Hackers Paradise

This month’s Small Batch release from Toulon Golf has the potential to be one of their most popular yet. Taking inspiration from the venerable St Andrews, it’s simply named Scotland. With the Women’s Open Championship taking place there this week, it only seems fitting that Toulon is honoring the home of golf.

As we’ve come to expect from Small Batch releases, the Scotland exhibits a central theme while also presenting a number of other small tributes and stories in its outward design. The first place we’ll focus on is the sole. Right away you’ll notice something different – “Toulon & Sons” has replaced the standard “Toulon” we see placed on the company’s putters. This is an homage to the small shops and storefronts that are so prevalent in the St. Andrews area. Toulon wants us to imagine a small shop, with the sole representing the sign on the window. Many of these shops were family businesses, like Toulon Golf itself, and many had a family dog keeping watch. As such, the right side of the sole reveals the silhouette of a dog, paying tribute to Toulon’s recently deceased pup Jack.

You’ll also notice a family crest twice on the Scotland (cavity and sole). This was designed by Toulon to represent their family. The cross represents unity, while the stars symbolize the five family members (with an extra star for four-legged companions). Finally, a date of Est. 2015 is inscribed on the modified H1 hosel. All told, the Scotland exhibits the familial nature of the company and gives us an idea of what a Toulon & Sons shop might have looked like if it were located in St. Andrews hundreds of years ago.

In a quest to produce something that is not only nostalgic, but also feels, looks, and performs to the highest standard, Toulon says they, “added a modified H1 hosel to the classic pintail design, lengthened the blade length to a modern 4.5 inches and designed a tailored, elegant squared off shoulder and bumper design.” You’ll notice classic heel/toe weighting that perfectly frames the cavity and family crest.

The topline features a high-toe look, thanks to a slightly curved topline that extends away from the hosel. Aside from looking amazing, this feature slightly moves the center of gravity more towards the center of the face. The primary face milling pattern is a Fine Double Fly Cut, but it also features a Big Tuna over mill to further enhance audible feel at impact. Finally, a small dot on the top line functions as a simple and elegant aim point.

Toulon Scotland Headcover

Toulon worked with Seamus Golf, another family owned business, to provide a fitting accessory to the Scotland. Their wool Toulon & Sons headcover features both the storefront name and a classic tartan design.
