The previous day witnessed the first Super Over of the tournament, with Namibia and Oman playing out a low-scoring tie that was followed by the former winning the Super Over. Later in the day, the South African bowlers ran riot as they bowled Sri Lanka out for a meagre 77, later going on to collect a six-wicket victory.

Afghanistan take on Uganda in the evening at Guyana’s Providence Stadium on Monday evening, which will air on Tuesday morning in India starting 6 am. England face Scotland later in Barbados with their fixture starting at 8 pm while the Netherlands vs Nepal match in Dallas begins an hour later.

Here’s a more detailed look at Tuesday’s T20 World Cup fixtures:

Afghanistan vs Uganda

Buoyed by their stellar display in last year’s ODI World Cup in India, where they defeated teams such as England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and were in contention for a place in the semi-finals at one point, Afghanistan will be hoping to go further than ever in an ICC tournament in this year’s T20 World Cup.

They are up against Uganda, a team that is making it’s debut in an elite ICC event after a remarkable qualifying campaign where they ended up pipping Zimbabwe and finishing among the top two in their region alongside Namibia.

Despite not having any prior experience of facing the Cricket Cranes, with Tuesday’s match being the first T20I meeting between these two sides, the Afghans will start as solid favourites to begin their campaign on a winning note.

And despite the fact that Scotland are a lot more experienced than either Afghanistan or Uganda when it comes to international cricketing events, having made their first World Cup appearance all the way back in 1999, the Jos Buttler-led England start as the tearaway favourites to begin their title defence on a winning note.

The Englishmen arrived in the Caribbean on the back of a morale-boosting 2-0 series victory over Pakistan. Additionally several of their players — from top-order batters Phil Salt, Jonny Bairstow and skipper Buttler to pacers all-rounders Moeen Ali and Sam Curran — were in fine form during the 17th season of the IPL.

Tuesday will be the first day of the tournament where three matches take place in one day (for Indian viewers that is) with Netherlands taking on Nepal in Dallas, the venue where co-hosts USA had defeated Canada in the tournament opener on Sunday, an hour after the England-Scotland fixture.

While Netherlands are fairly used to being part of World Cup action, both in the ODI as well as in the T20I format, Nepal will be making only their second World Cup appearance after the 2014 edition of the T20 World Cup, where they had bowed out in the group stage.

Netherlands, whose first appearance in a global cricketing event was in the 1996 World Cup, are yet to reach the knockout stages of an ICC event, something they will be hoping to change this year.
