Three Scottish universities named among the top 200 in new world ranking
Across the UK, 25 institutions made the cut with the University of Oxford retaining the top spot in the international league table.
The annual list looks at thousands of universities around the world and assesses them on teaching, research quality, research environment, international outlook, and industry.
Of the British universities named, 13 were able to improve their positions in the last 12 months.
The University of Edinburgh and the University of St Andrews were both able to move up on the table with the University of Glasgow remaining at number 87.
Despite a positive showing in the Times Higher Education ranking, Phil Baty, chief global affairs officer at THE said the sector is “being battered by numerous prevailing winds.”
He said that one of the most severe of these includes “extremely stretched finances” which may make it “almost impossible” to see the sector sustain itself without “significant help.”
