Thomas hits four as Scotland thrash Israel to secure Euros play-off spot

Scotland women’s team have booked a place in the play-offs for next summer’s European Championships with a comfortable victory over Israel in Hungary.

Four goals from Martha Thomas secured all three points to keep the national side firmly on track in their road to Switzerland.

And Chelsea Cornett then scored her first international goal late on as the Scots eased to a 5-0 victory with a dominant display that could have ran into double figures on another day.

Pedro Martinez Losa’s side stay top of Group B2 after the big win on Tuesday afternoon that follows on from the 4-1 victory over the same opponent in Glasgow on Friday.

They are now ten points ahead of bottom placed Israel with only two games remaining in the group and the top three all qualifying for the play-offs.

Games against Serbia and Slovakia now remain as they look to top the group and gain promotion to League A in the Nations League.

The national team went into Tuesday’s game knowing a point would be enough to progress their journey towards Euro 2025 in Switzerland.

Thomas opened the scoring after 14 minutes to give Scotland an early lead in the game that was played behind closed doors in Budapest.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward then doubled the lead with her second of the match just before half-time.

Scotland stayed on the front foot after the break and had a few chances to put the game out of sight early in the half.

And the three points were wrapped up with just over 15 minutes to go when Thomas scored her third to make it 3-0.

And she wasn’t done there when she bagged her fourth of the game to make it 4-0 just moments later.

Cornett added icing to the cake at the end to secure a convincing 5-0 win that moves Scotland three points clear at the top of the group.
