The show must go on as BBC Scotland orders travelling fairground docusoap – Prolific North

BBC Scotland has ordered a fly on the wall docusoap series, The Show People: Licenced To Thrill (wt), from Zinc label Tern Television.

The series showcases the lives at work, home, and on the road, of Scotland’s Show People.

The six-part miniseries will TX in 2025, and will follow Show People “throughout their busy summer season, capturing the highs and lows of daily life as they travel across the country. From the dramas of running their small (and not so small) businesses, to letting their hair down at the end of a busy day, the audience will see behind the scenes of the fair and into the homes and lives of this private and close-knit community.”

Executive producer David Marshall said: “We are delighted to work with BBC Scotland to shine a light on the fascinating and colourful world of the Show People community. It is testament to the team and their ability of winning the trust that allows audiences a unique glimpse into lives far removed from their own.”

Tony Nellany, commissioner for BBC Scotland, added: “Many people will be familiar with ‘the shows’ and fairground rides that travel around Scotland throughout the year. Our aim with this series is to provide an insight into the lives of the families who bring the fun and excitement of the fair as they hit the road with their cavalcade of rides heading from town to town. It is a close-knit community, and this will be a window into their lives at home and on the road.”

The Show People: Licensed to Thrill is series produced by Emma Fentiman, series directed by Rod Tamime, executive produced by David Marshall and commissioned by Tony Nellany for BBC Scotland.
