Tennis Scotland Open Tour Finals to be shown live on BBC

Tennis Scotland are delighted to announce that the conclusion of another dramatic domestic season will be shown live by BBC Scotland.

The broadcaster will stream four matches from the Tennis Scotland Open Tour Finals, including the men’s and women’s finals, on the BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport website and app on Tuesday 17 December. Coverage will also be available outside the UK on the Tennis Scotland YouTube channel.

16 men and 16 women will compete in the TS Open Tour Finals at Scotstoun Community Indoor Tennis Centre in Glasgow across two days, with highlights from the first round and quarter-finals on Monday 16 December also available across the BBC Sport and Tennis Scotland platforms.

Tuesday’s action gets underway at 9.30am with live coverage of a women’s semi-final, followed by a men’s last four match before both finals.

At the showpiece event, players will compete for a £10,000 prize pot and the coveted Sword trophies – named after Scotland internationalists Derek and Allan Sword.

‘Enjoy the action’

Blane Dodds, Chief Executive of Tennis Scotland, said: “We are delighted to announce this partnership with BBC Scotland, which will ensure tennis fans across Scotland and the UK, as well as internationally, can enjoy all the exciting action from the Tennis Scotland Open Tour Finals.

“The Tour has been a tremendous success, creating a high standard of domestic competition and, thanks to significant sponsorship, allowing players to earn prize money that enables them to travel and compete internationally.

“We’re looking forward to two busy days of top-class tennis as we bring the curtain down on another inspiring season of the TS Open Tour.”

Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning, BBC Scotland, said: “It’s great news for our audiences that we’ll be screening live coverage of the closing stages of this big event in the Scottish tennis calendar.

“We’re delighted to team up with Tennis Scotland to air four of the matches, including the men’s and women’s finals. Catch the live coverage on the BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport website and app.”

‘Created in partnership’

The Tennis Scotland Open Tour was created in partnership with clubs, organisers and others as a national structure of competition. By also hosting workshops and development activities, many Tour events also provide opportunities for tennis coaches and junior players to develop their skills.

A total of 17 ‘Leaderboard’ events around the country allow players to collect ranking points based on their performances, with the top 16 men’s and women’s players qualifying for the Finals, which were won last year by Hamish Stewart and Hannah Rylatt.

This year’s Tour began with the North East of Scotland Indoor Championships in Aberdeen in January and has served up seven different men’s champions and 11 winners in the women’s events.

Tennis Scotland brought the curtain down on the regular season at the Scottish National Open Championships, held at the University of Stirling in November.

The draw for the 2024 TS Open Tour Finals will be published on Friday 13 December. Spectators are welcome to attend the Finals and entry will be free.
