Tennis Scotland and Oriam announce new long-term partnership

Tennis Scotland has announced a new long-term partnership with Oriam at Heriot-Watt University in the wake of the official opening of its new £4.5 million Indoor Tennis Centre.

The sport’s governing body will use the impressive six-court facility for performance purposes, coach education, and competitions. This will compliment all other planned activity and work around Oriam’s existing tennis programme and pay-as-you-play offering.

The commitment demonstrates Tennis Scotland’s confidence in Oriam’s facilities and its potential to be a major asset for the sport.

As the partnership evolves, Tennis Scotland will continue to contribute to the flourishing tennis community through a sustained court-usage plan. And with over 30,000 hours available annually, there is plenty of court time for the community to enjoy the facility.

Among the activity that features in the partnership, Oriam will host coaching sessions for the Scottish National Player Pathway and the National Player Programme, providing valuable court time for some of the nation’s best players of all ages.

It will also be the venue for a range of coaching qualifications as well as a number of competitions delivered by Tennis Scotland and other partners, including the LTA, such as events on the Scotland Tour.

Blane Dodds, Chief Executive at Tennis Scotland, said: “The appetite for tennis has never been higher in Scotland, with national club membership at record levels.

“That’s why it’s important there is investment in top-class facilities such as the new Indoor Tennis Centre at Oriam to grow capacity and ensure the sport is accessible to all.

“We are delighted to have agreed a partnership with Oriam, providing a superb venue for coaching, competitions, performance and community programmes, as well as making sure more people across Scotland get further year-round opportunities to play tennis.”

“This collaboration embodies our commitment to create a hub for tennis athletes of all levels within the region. Together, we aim to make a lasting impact on participation, workforce and performance which is underpinned by our pursuit in getting as many people of all ages and abilities as possible to pick up a racket and enjoy a healthier, more active lifestyle.”
