Tartan Army taxi abandoned in Germany 6weeks after Scotland crash out of Euros

A TARTAN Army “taxi” sits ditched in Germany weeks after Scotland were dumped out of Euro 2024.

Expat Jake James, 29, spotted the clapped-out Volkswagen Sharan abandoned in a Munich side street beside a hotel, scrawled with “freedom” and “Scotland Euros”.

It has sat blocking a lane reserved for the emergency services since the tournament opener six weeks ago, when Steve Clarke’s men were battered 5-1 by the hosts.

A crudely-painted Scotland flag is plastered on its side with another on the bonnet alongside the cheeky message “honk if you’re horny”.

Jake — who has lived in the city for three years — told The Scottish Sun on Sunday: “It looks like a bit of a banger guys had bought to get them over for the Euros.

“You could squeeze seven guys in there, but it doesn’t look like it would make it home. If it was back in Scotland it probably would be up on bricks with its wheels gone and windows smashed.”

Software engineer Jake, from Gulberwick, Shetland, found the 20-year-old untaxed taxi — complete with UK licence plate — ditched behind a Hampton by Hilton hotel.

He said: “I told my colleagues.

“They laughed and started going on about how great the Tartan Army was.”

Scotland fans took the country by storm despite a poor run of results.

Fans parties with Germans and opposition fans in Munich, Cologne and Stuttgart.

Two kilted supporters won favour across the nation and being spotted holding a brolly above an elderly local and helping them across a crowded square.

The image was beamed around Germany, featured in newspapers there and even turned into a cartoon which was played at train stations.

Software engineer Jake — who missed the showpiece first game because he had to travel home for his sister’s wedding — added: “I told my colleagues about it and they were a bit bemused.

“They laughed and then started going on about how great the Tartan Army was.

“It’s all anybody is talking about.

“I missed the game because I had to go home for my sister’s wedding.

“Thousands of Tartan Army were flying out here and I was going in the completely opposite direction.

“I was gutted.”
