In an interview with Sky Sports, Scotland’s Chris Greaves relayed that he believes Scotland can beat England again in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Greaves detailed that England and Scotland have been a rivalry in any sport and there is always hype about the clash regardless of the sport.

“It’s a typical Derby isn’t it? I think any game, any sport against England or Scotland you know there’s going to be some hype about it. But we look forward to it. We’ve kept quite grounded as a squad,” he said.

Greaves concluded that Scotland has defeated England before and it is possible that as a squad they are going to repeat the feat but they are not going to look too far ahead.

“Regardless of who we were playing the first game, we don’t want to look too far ahead. We are just looking forward to it. Some people call it an upset but as a squad we know we have done it before and the nice thing is we just say ‘why not?’ you know, it is a great opportunity for cricket in Scotland,” he added.

The last time Scotland defeated England was back in 2018 when Scotland won the only ODI as England fell 7 runs short of the 372 runs target set up by Scotland. Scotland’s mammoth total was made possible by Calum MacLeod’s 140 not out of 94 deliveries.

It should be noted that for Scotland, this is their sixth appearance in a T20 World Cup. They have played the 2007, 2009, 2016, 2021 and 2022 editions of the tournament though they have never managed to get past the first stage of the tournament.

Scotland and England will play against each other on June 4 at the Kensington Oval Barbados.

Then Scotland will play with the rest of Group B including Namibia on June 6, Oman on June 9 and Australia on June 15.
