The State of Play
With group heavyweights England and Australia playing each other, Scotland will see their encounter with Oman in Antigua on Sunday as a chance to put themselves even more firmly in the running to progress at the T20 World Cup 2024.
A washout against England in which Scotland had reached an impressive 90 for no wicket came before a five-wicket victory over Namibia for the team who had emphasised their target of four wins from four in the group stage before the tournament began.
“We’ve got a hell of a squad,” said Michael Leask, whose 35 against Namibia was only bettered by Richie Berrington’s unbeaten 47.
“It’s no surprise to us; it might be a surprise to some. This team’s got great depth. A number of us have played together for a number of years and we’ve got some fresh blood. We’ve got a lovely bowling attack.

“We’ve got two huge games left – why can’t we top the table? Oman is a huge fixture for us and then we go again.
“Those games could put us bottom of the table. There are still 80 overs of cricket to play. We can only do what we can control.”

Oman only lost to Namibia via the Super Over in their opener and were then beaten by 39 runs by Australia, who were tested early on by a bowling attack which yielded two wickets for 38 for Mehran Khan.
“We showed the world that Oman are a good team,” all-rounder Ayan Khan said. “We were playing in front of the champions and had the chance to prove ourselves.
“It’s a challenge to play against them but we played aggressive and positive cricket in the middle.
“We are not here by fluke. We are going to execute [against Scotland] as well.”

Prediction
In-form Scotland won’t mind their status as favourites in this match and perhaps have added incentive to put more points on the board before their closing game of the group stage against Australia.
George Munsey and Matthew Cross will be bidding to improve on single-digit scores against Namibia with the bat, while Brad Wheal took 3-33 and Brad Currie 2-16.
Mehran Khan’s five-wicket total in the tournament shows Oman are not to be discounted, though – especially if their spin bowlers can contribute as effectively.
