Storm Darragh forces early cancellation of ferries between Ireland and Scotland

None will run from Cairnryan to Belfast until 7.30pm on Saturday night, meaning the usual sailings at 3.30am, 7.30am, 11.30am and 3.30pm have all been cancelled.

It’s a similar story for anyone who may be travelling from Belfast, with sailings at 3.30am, 7.30am, 11.30am and 3.30pm all cancelled.

That could cause problems for football fans making their way across the Irish Sea for Celtic’s home game against Hibernian on Saturday afternoon, with thousands of supporters regularly making that journey.

The storm is set to set 80mph winds hit the south-west of Scotland and transport secretary Fiona Hyslop has said that travel could be affected over the coming days.

She said: “The Met Office is warning us to expect another period of disruption this weekend, with Storm Darragh set to bring strong winds to the south of Scotland.

“The south-west in particular will likely see the worst of the conditions.

“High winds will bring challenges for the trunk road network, so travellers should make sure they plan their journey in advance, drive to the conditions and follow Police Scotland travel advice.”
