Welcome back to Scenic Six.

Happy New Year! A blank calendar is deliciously full of possibilities for travel and local readers are already dreaming of international journeys in 2025 (more on that below). If you are in the same headspace, there’s a current sale on flights from Boston to Europe (also detailed below). As for me, I am eyeing beautiful Hawaii for a family trip this year. Where would you like to go?

A new Boston flight route was just named one of the most exciting of 2025

If Scotland is on your radar, a new nonstop seasonal route between Boston and Edinburgh was just named among the most exciting new airline routes for 2025 by The Points Guy. It is exciting. Gorgeous Edinburgh quickly became one of my favorite cities after a 2023 trip there with my husband. We strolled the historic Royal Mile, ate at a traditional Scottish bar, and hiked Arthur’s Seat. Take me back! Boston service begins in May.

Here’s where readers are dreaming of traveling in 2025

Local readers are so ready for a foreign adventure in 2025. In a Boston.com poll, 78 percent said they want to travel internationally this year. Where do they want to go? Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Canada, Australia, Spain, Germany, and more. Read more about the travel goals of readers this year

Peek inside a historic Berkshires hotel that has hosted five U.S. presidents

I recently rode the 1897 “birdcage” elevator at the historic 1773 Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, which was such a treat. Five U.S. presidents have stayed at the storied inn, featured in Norman Rockwell’s 1967 painting “Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas (Home for Christmas).” Learn more about the inn’s history and take a look inside

Deals and Steals

In honor of Boston’s new exciting plane route to Edinburgh, I’ll leave you with this photo I took on Victoria Street in Edinburgh, billed as the country’s most photographed street.
