The fire broke out at Straiton Retail Park

Several Edinburgh shops have been left with “significant damage” after a fire was started at a retail park.

Emergency services were called to Straiton Retail Park, Loanhead in Midlothian at about 21:00 on Monday.

Police Scotland said they were treating the incident as wilful fireraising and have appealed for information.

No-one was injured in the blaze.

Police Scotland’s Det Con Garry Mauran said: “Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of the fire which has caused significant damage and loss of business to several premises in the area.

“We are treating the fire as wilful and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed anything suspicious to contact us.”

He added that any drivers with dashcam footage from around the time of the fire should also contact police.

There are about 25 shops and restaurants at the retail centre, including popular franchises such as Greggs, Boots and Pets At Home.
