Scottish teen aiming for American dream to win NFL Super Bowl
A Scottish teen is aiming to realise his own American dream by getting to the NFL and one day winning the Super Bowl.
Jude Colvin is seeking the chance to fly the Saltire in the United States and become a sporting star across the Atlantic.
The 17-year-old has been recruited to the NFL Academy and is now hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Scottish-born two-time Super Bowl champion Lawrence Tynes.
After starting out in rugby, the teenager decided to try American football with the Napier Knights based at Sighthill in Edinburgh and hasn’t looked back.
Going on to represent Scotland and Great Britain, Jude is now well on his way to achieving his dream of playing in the United States.
The NFL Academy at Loughborough is the stepping stone in Europe to try and make the grade in American football and prepares players, on and off the field, to gain a place at college teams.
Colvin, a running back, now spends hours studying superstars like the San Francisco 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey and wants to go all the way to the top, starting by catching the eye of scouts.
The hard yards lie ahead, but he is ready to do whatever it takes to realise his American dream and become an inspiration for other young Scots in the future.
Speaking to STV Sport, he said: “It is still so surreal to me, if you told me at the beginning of this year that I would get into the academy I would’ve thought you were crazy. But I’m very happy.”
“I am hoping to get to that level, then from there get to the draft and hopefully get a team and then win the Super Bowl, that is the dream for me.
“So I just want to push myself to the limit, being comfortable being uncomfortable and just set that expectation for myself that I can do it, I can even though I am from Scotland.
“I want to get to that level so that people can look up to me and say, ‘that guy is from Scotland and he has made it to the NFL’.”
