Scottish shop named favourite local business in UK-wide competition
Annie Mo’s, a furniture retailer on Aberdeen’s Union Street, thanked customers online announcing they came out top in the competition after more than 4000 votes were cast for around 1000 business.
.The competition, launched by Miconex, also awarded one of the hundreds of Aberdonians who voted for the shop a £1000 Aberdeen Gift Card as a prize.
Owner Emily McDonald runs the store with her mother Judith, and said she was delighted with the win. The store first started on Holburn Street 32 years ago.

Along with the national award, the shop has also received a £500 Aberdeen Gift Card, which will go towards a staff night out.
She said: “I don’t think winning the UK’s favourite local business has really sunk in yet.
“We’re just a small shop doing our best and I’m so proud of the whole team and so thankful to our customers.”
Support worker Deborah Luke (above middle) was the customer awarded the £1000 Aberdeen Gift Card after voting for the shop.
She said: “It’s a little jewel of a shop. I don’t earn a huge amount, but I love to treat myself to an item at Annie Mo’s as a treat for working hard, like the Christmas decoration I bought the other day which they wrapped up beautifully in brown paper.
“I’ve always dreamt of being able to really splash out in Annie Mo’s and I’m just so happy to have won the Aberdeen Gift Card and so glad to see Annie Mo’s win UK’s Favourite Local Business.”
Another customer shared on Facebook: “Love this shop. Bought my French kitchen table and beautiful renovated 19th century dresser from Annie Moe’s 20 years ago, still love them now. Congratulations on a well deserved win.”
