Scottish media make serious claim about Liverpool’s Ben Doak after 2-1 win vs Poland

To that end, Liverpool don’t plan to recall Doak early from his loan, who has scored one goal and provided three assists in 10 appearances in the Championship this season.

Despite Premier League clubs being interested in taking the Scotland international on loan for the second half of the season, Liverpool are content with Doak’s progress under Michael Carrick.

Rating his display, The Herald gave Doak a 8/10 and noted how he continued his ‘domination’ from the win over Croatia.

“After much needless dubiety over whether the teenager would start in Warsaw, he did indeed start on the right wing for Scotland. Steve Clarke, what are you like?

“He lit up the game against Croatia on Friday night as he dominated Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol. It didn’t take the 19-year-old long to get motoring once again.

“Electric over a couple of yards, he took on his man before picking out McGinn with his cutback to the edge of the Polish box on 3 minutes.

“Continued to go at their left back and didn’t let up. Was surprised to see him go off when he did after another top showing.”

Edinburgh News gave Doak a 7/10 for his efforts, suggesting he was key to the national team’s future.

“The nation’s next great attacking hope? After lighting up Croatia, he left Poland on the ropes with menacing runs before tiring and being subbed. Got an assist. The future is now. 7/10.”

Middlesbrough deserve credit for Doak’s progress

Given all of his improvement, Liverpool see Doak as their Mohamed Salah replacement according to reports.

It is felt that Doak still needs to improve his finishing to fully become a star at Anfield, but he’s certainly on the right track.

Carrick has an excellent reputation for developing young players at the Riverside Stadium and Liverpool’s decision to send the 19-year-old to the North East has been a good one.

Perhaps some will wonder if the club could have saved themselves the hassle of recruiting Federico Chiesa by keeping Doak instead.

However, Arne Slot will know that regular minutes is vital for Doak right now, who’s reaping all of the rewards.
