Scottish football club reeling after team bus is stolen by thieves

The bus was stolen just ten days before their season starts

Threave Rovers play in the West of Scotland League Third Division – the ninth tier of Scottish football – and finished fourth in the league last term.

But the ambitious lower league club have been dealt a major blow ahead of next season after yobs broke into the team’s social club before stealing the minibus used for matchdays.

It will leave the club scrambling for new transport – with just 10 days to go before their new season starts with a match against Thorn Athletic on July 27.

Police Scotland shared a picture of the bus on social media and urged anyone with information to come forward.

A statement read: “Between 8pm last night and 7am this morning, Threave Rovers FC and Social Club has been broken into and those responsible have stolen items, along with the team’s minibus.”

The Rovers shared the post to their followers as they admitted the loss of the vehicle and goods from the social club is a “disaster“.

They wrote: “Disaster for the club and the community – anyone with any information please get in touch.”

Newton Stewart FC, a club in the South of Scotland Football League, expressed their sympathy with their fellow lower league side after hearing the news.

They replied to the initial post, saying: “That is simply awful lads and hopefully the perpetrators are caught quickly and dealt with by the authorities!

“Most people don’t fully appreciate all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to provide these invaluable items that enable our Clubs to continue to keep going in the right direction.”
