Scottie Scheffler prepares for Open with ‘awesome’ day out at Trump Turnberry

Scottie Scheffler ramped up his preparations for this week’s Open Championship with a practice round at the historic Turnberry Golf Course.

The 152nd Open is fast-approaching as golf’s best head to Royal Troon to battle it out in the final major of the year.

Masters champion Scheffler is yet to showcase his brilliance at The Open with his best performance being tied for eighth at the 2021 tournament.

But the 28-year-old Texan has undoubtedly been the best golfer in the world right now and heads to Scotland in stunning form.

In 2024 alone, Scheffler has won four signature events, The Players Championship and The Masters to make up one of the most dominant seasons in PGA Tour history.

He’ll now be eager to take that good form into the Open and prove his game translates onto the Scottish links.

Ahead of Thursday’s opening round at Troon, Scheffler and his good friend and fellow Open contender Sam Burns, went to Trump Turnberry to acclimatise to local conditions and hone their skills.

Turnberry, which is just down the coast from Troon in South Ayrshire, is one of the top courses in world golf and has hosted The Open on four occasions.

Following his round on Saturday, Scheffler said: “Thanks for a great day here at Trump Turnberry. We had a lot of fun getting ready for the Open Championship next week.

“It was a good time, the golf course is in good shape. Thanks yall, appreciate it.”

And Burns, winner of the WGC Match Play last year, added: “We had a blast, awesome golf course, was incredible.”

Scheffler finished T23 at The Open last year as fellow American Brian Harman stormed to victory at a rain-soaked Royal Liverpool.

But Scheffler has an incredible major record, claiming 11 top ten finishes from the 20 tournaments he’s played in.

He is, of course, a two-time major winner and produced a dominant display at Augusta to clinch his second Masters title in April.

Scheffler began his Open preparations in earnest on Sunday, playing a practice round at Troon alongside Burns and Sepp Straka.
