But the free agent has been snapped up by former Celtic and Morton star Michael Tidser at Kelty Hearts – where he will also join the coaching team.

Kelty wrote in a statement: “We are delighted to welcome Scott Allan as Michael Tidser’s latest addition ahead of the new season.

“The experienced midfielder, who counts Dundee United, West Brom, Hibs and Celtic amongst his former clubs, joins us at New Central Park having picked up a Northern Ireland Championship medal with Larne last season whilst on loan from Arbroath.

“Scott will also be assisting as part of the coaching team in his role at the club.

Already this summer, the League One side have snapped up Australia U23 internationalist Murray Miller, and persuaded left back Brody Paterson to join the club on a permanent basis.

Allan was subject to interest from both Rangers and Celtic in 2015 after an eye-catching first season at Hibs.

Rangers bid three times to sign the then-23-year-old that summer, battling rivals Celtic for his signing.

But Allan eventually moved to Parkhead in a player-plus-cash deal with Liam Henderson heading in the other direction.

The boyhood Gers fan recalled how he couldn’t quite leave the Ibrox links behind.
