Scots football team explain reason for sudden lack of updates in 5-4 thriller

FOOTBALL clubs’ social media teams are usually eagle-eyed to keep supporters up to date on everything happening in their games.

But that wasn’t the case for one semi-pro outfit in the north of Scotland on Saturday.

Orkney FC are the most northerly senior team in Scotland, and compete in the North Caledonian FA League.

And the islanders enjoyed a high-scoring win in their game against Clachnacuddin ‘A’, coming out on top 5-4.

But fans of the club were kept in the dark with very few posts from the club on X, formerly Twitter, to follow the game live.

The club’s account posted to inform fans with the score at 1-1 and 2-1 to Clach, but there were no posts until the full-time score was confirmed – and the club’s admin then revealed in amusing fashion why the updates had been few and far between.

They said: “Sorry for the lack of updates as I’m in Paris.”

The result lifted Orkney to sixth in the table, whilst Clachnacuddin are second bottom in 11th.

Meanwhile, Neil Lennon‘s appointment as manager of Rapid Bucharest has been slammed by one of the club’s former chiefs.

It was a surprise when the former Celtic manager was appointed in May, and the Northern Irishman only ended up lasting three month before being sacked in August.

And Daniel Niculae, ex-president of Rapid, fumed that Lennon should never have been hired in the first place.

He said: “His appointment was a mistake last summer, a big mistake!

‘I’m not sure that was pragmatic enough for some’ says Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers as he responds to doubters after Atalanta draw

“The dismissal wasn’t a mistake, just the timing of his installation.

“Everyone sounded the alarm about Lennon’s arrival, but why that happened I don’t know; the ‘bad guys’ from Rapid should be asked.”
