Scots football club blast own fans over ‘wholly unacceptable’ offences

The club has been reviewing CCTV footage and submitted a report to cops.

General manager Dale Pryde-MacDonald said: “The incidents that took place were wholly unacceptable and not reflective of Greenock Morton Football Club or the majority of our supporters.

“The small minority does not and will not reflect the larger proportion of our terrific fanbase.

“It is clear from the messages we have received since the match that the appetite is with our fanbase to ensure Cappielow continues to be an inclusive, welcoming and positive environment for all and to rid poor and unacceptable conduct.

“Led by myself and our safety team we have reviewed the footage from the match on our CCTV system along with witness reports, as well as liaised with our stewarding company.

“This will now lead to action against those who committed the offences. It is important to reinforce that some of the events that took place are illegal offences and will come with punishments beyond club level.

“I want to re-emphasise my support to the vast majority of our fanbase who behave exceptionally well in stadiums across the country, as well as our own, and make supporting Greenock Morton a positive, engaging and inclusive place for all.”

The Scottish Sun has approached Police Scotland for comment.

Meanwhile there are doubts over the futures of several Rangers stars this summer.

But one big money signing looks like he’s certain to leave after being named in the B team alongside the Ibrox kids.

Sam Lammers, 27, struggled to make an impact despite playing a regular role.

After Michael Beale‘s sacking in October, Lammers’ involvement dwindled and he was eventually all but frozen out under new boss Philippe Clement.

In January, he joined Utrecht on loan until the end of the season.

The former Netherlands under-21 international enjoyed a major upturn in form and ended up scoring 10 times in 18 Eredivisie appearances.

Lammers scored in nine consecutive matches, setting a club record in the process.

Utrecht had hoped to sign Lammers permanently after his big impact for them but the finances – transfer fee and wages combined – have proved a stumbling block.

In the meantime, he is back at Rangers.

But he has NOT been involved in the first team.

SunSport told you last week how Lammers had not travelled with Clement’s squad to the Netherlands for their pre-season camp.

Left behind, he’s been training with the club’s B team.

Yesterday afternoon, Rangers B took Leeds United‘s under-21s in a behind closed doors friendly match.

The Gers B team was largely made up of youngsters, with young first team stars Leon King, 20, and Robbie Fraser, 21, also in the lineup.

Lammers was substituted at half time.
