Scotland’s worst football team finally win a game for the first time ever
THE FOOTBALL team branded Scotland’s worst have won their first game ever.
Aberdeen amateurs St Machar Thistle made headlines around the world after being hammered 51-0.
But, nearly a year later, they’ve finally broken their duck with a nervy 3-2 win against local rivals Glentanar Reflex.
Manager Struan MacLennan said: “Losing 51-0 kept this club alive. We wouldn’t be around now if it hadn’t happened.
“After that defeat, we did wonder what is the point, but then you turn up at training and there are 35 guys there, all wanting to help out.
“We still have a core of five of us who have been with St Machar from the start, and the rest have come in and we’ve become a decent squad.”

Formed in summer 2023, St Machar suffered their record annihilation at the hands of Stonehaven-based AC Mill Inn Academy.
They kicked off with only eight men but their stand-in goalkeeper forgot his contact lenses then had to go off injured.
St Machar managed a draw against Laurencekirk West End last February, but opened this season with two more defeats.
Last weekend, they were 3-0 up against Glentanar but conceded two late goals to set up a nervy finish.
Struan – a 21-year-old Aberdeen University student – said: “We’ve come close to winning before but blown it every time, so I was thinking: ‘Oh no, here we go again’.
“In the dressing room afterwards, it was actually very quiet. We believed this day would come, but when it did, I think we all just felt huge relief rather than elation.
“The monkey is now off our backs, and we had a great night out in Aberdeen later on.”
St Machar’s defeat is believed to be the worst in Scottish history.
Meanwhile at the other end of the football spectrum, Steve Clarke has demanded answers from the SFA over Scotland‘s flight chaos.
The national team’s charter flight to Portugal flew into a military airport almost 100 MILES outside of Lisbon.
It meant a two-hour bus trip to the capital with Clarke unhappy at how his squad preparation was affected.
Asked why the SFA chose a location so far away, Clarke said: “I thought it was in Spain.
“It’s something we have to look at after this. But we’re finally here so let’s crack on with the football questions.

“It’s something for me to discuss with the powers that be after this trip.
“I’ve got to focus on the game coming up.”
