Scotland’s injury hit team news ahead of final Hampden warm-up for Euro 2024

NO SCOTLAND, no party is the Tartan Army cry – but no more injuries is the shout from Steve Clarke on the Hampden bench this week.

The boss has seen several stars fall by the wayside since our emphatic qualification campaign saw us sweep Spain aside and knock Norway out.

First it was Aaron Hickey, soon followed by fellow right-back Nathan Paterson and Lewis Ferguson.

There have been scares for Stuart Armstrong and Scott McTominay too.

But Lyndon Dykes‘ training ground stretcher left the squad – and support – gutted, then Ben Doak followed him out of the tournament too.

It’s all been far from ideal prep – and that’s before we reflect on an underwhelming win over Gibraltar on the back of defeats to Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

A one last Hampden hurrah can lift the spirits though and it’s Finland on Friday for Clarke’s men.

And he’ll obviously be hoping for an upturn in fortunes and performance for the squad send-off.

Where do we start?

It’s been an injury nightmare for Steve Clarke since the Euro group draw was made back in December.

It feels like everyone, from skipper Andy Robertson to Lyndon Dykes up front, has been struck down or had a fitness fright one way or another.

But what we DO know is from the 28-man squad Clarke named for these two games and the pre-tournament training camp, Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak are OUT.

Tommy Conway is in, having been called up from the under-21s – and could get a debut.

That leaves just ONE player to be cut ahead of the weekend’s deadline for squad submissions.

For the match itself Liam Cooper is a doubt after a knock to his knee against Gibraltar, but Clarke was hopeful it was simply an impact injury with no lasting damage to the Leeds skipper.
