Scotland’s Euro 2024 convoy route revealed – how to follow along to Munich

THE Scottish Sun are hitting the road to the Euros – with our mascot Sunny up for the cup.

We will be travelling from Inverness to Munich next week as the 200,000 strong Tartan Army make their way to Germany as Scotland kick-off an amazing summer of football.

And we would love you to join us along the way and share with us your stories about following our national team with the greatest fans on earth.

Iain Emerson, editor of The Famous Tartan Army magazine, urged fans to join in the fun.

He said: “Road trips with the Tartan Army are just the best fun. At every pit stop, the excitement builds as the fans all mingle.

“And the overnight ferry from Hull is a rites of passage for supporters as we never fail to turn it into one giant party boat.”

He adds: “So whether you’re travelling to Germany or not, you can join in the fun by waving off Sunny as he and the amazing Tartan Army head south.

“And let’s hope by showing your support we can help Stevie Clarke’s boys bring the trophy back.”

Our 800 mile trip will be eco-friendly too as we’re travelling in the all-electric BYD Seal – official partner of UEFA Euro 2024 Germany.

We set off from the Caledonian Stadium in Inverness on Monday June 10 at 10am as we make our way to Pittordie, Tannadice and Dens Park, then McDiarmid Park.

On Tuesday morning we leave Perth at 8am heading to Hampden where we plan to leave the home of Scottish Football at 10am.

From there we will drive to the overnight P&O Ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, stopping at the services at Abingdon, Gretna Green and Scotch Corner along the way.

From the Netherlands we will drive to Cologne where Scotland play Switzerland in the second match of Group A then to Stuttgart for our third game against Hungary.

But we’d love the Tartan Army to join us in a convoy for the journey or speak to us and pose for photos and video as we chart the incredible exodus of Scots fans heading to Europe.

Joining Sunny are Chief Features Writer Matt Bendoris and our German-born reporter Oliver Norton.

Glasgow-born Matt, 53, said: “I’m of an age where I always expected Scotland to qualify for major tournaments.

“But after France ‘98 it became such a long wait for the next one, then we ended up playing two out of our three matches at Hampden during Euro 2020.

“But now the Tartan Army is truly on the march again, mobilising in their thousands as we all head to Germany.

“And Oliver and I want to chart your journey and tell your stories, in print and online, as a memento of what will be an historic occasion.”

“Because one day, we will all want to be able to say ‘We were there’ – and thanks to The Scottish Sun, you will have the memories to prove it.”

Oliver, 37, said: “I was born in Speyer, Rhineland-Palatinate, and grew up in Weimar, Thuringia, but I came to Scotland to study and have lived here for 17 years.

“I’m still German, but consider myself an honorary Glaswegian after living in the city for 10 years or so.

“I’m not a fan of domestic football but always make sure I watch international tournaments. I admire the support for Scotland and find the dedication of the Tartan Army infectious.

“From my experience, Scots are welcome anywhere in the world, thanks to their openness, kindness and world-class banter. I know they’ll be most welcome in Germany.”

He adds: “I’m looking forward to our journey, meeting interesting characters along the way and documenting Scotland’s fans as they travel to Munich to cheer on their team in the opening game.

“It’ll be a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Cheeky Oliver adds: “I also can’t wait to eat some proper food again like decent sausages, schnitzel, pretzels and hearty meat dishes with dumplings and sauerkraut will definitely be on the menu along with some real bread.

“And of course there’s German beer, which is without doubt the best in the world, which the Tartan Army will no doubt enjoy.”
