And one Scottish brand scooped two top gongs.

In what has been dubbed the “Olympics of beer”, the lager firm was declared Scotland‘s top dog.

Hailed for its “crispy, zesty and refreshing” taste, it was awarded ‘Gold Winner’ in the competition‘s ‘Country’ and ‘Taste’ categories.

The beer wowed judges and even managed to beat big name brands like Estrella Damm, Madri and Becks who all won ‘Silver’.

Innis & Gunn was the only producer in Scotland to bag a ‘Gold’ win.

The Edinburgh-based chain was also commended with a ‘Silver’ award for the taste of its flagship lager ‘The Original’.

Rival Scots beer giant Tennent’s was named as ‘Bronze’ winner.

Founded in 2003, the award-winning Innis & Gunn has become a household name in the beer industry.

Enjoyed by punters across the UK, Europe and North America, the uniquely brewed beer is sold in hundreds of pubs and more than 1000 supermarkets.

Douglas Gunn Sharp, Innis & Gunn founder, set up after he thought of brewing beer in whisky casks to develop a ‘super-premium’ ale.

The priciest and cheapest places in UK to buy a beer

Since launching Innis & Gunn Lager in 2013, the craft brewer has had a lasting impact on Scotland’s beer scene – exceeding the likes of Tennent’s Lager in this year’s World Beer Awards.

Celebrating their win, Douglas Gunn Sharp said: “This is a very proud moment for our team but this recognition only confirms what we’ve always known; our lager is the best in Scotland, and it can compete with any in the world”, said the brewer and founder.

“Everyone who tries our beer is a convert. And more and more people are trying our beer every day, so the potential is huge. I hope that drinkers feel a sense of pride that something homegrown in Scotland can win against the most well known Premium Lagers in the world.”
