Scotland Women appoint Chris Read as assistant coach | ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, 2024

The former England wicketkeeper played 15 Tests and 36 ODIs between 1999 and 2006

Former England wicketkeeper Chris Read has been appointed Scotland Women’s assistant coach for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, Cricket Scotland announced on September 16 (Monday).

Read, who played 15 Tests and 36 One-Day Internationals (ODI) for England between 1999 and 2006, is currently the head coach of Lancashire Thunder women’s team and has a vast coaching experience which include stints with Hobart Hurricanes in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and Trent Rockets in The Hundred.

Read will join Joe Kinghorn-Gray as the assistant coach, who will work under head coach Craig Wallace, who was recently handed the full-time role.

“I’m delighted to be joining the Scotland coaching staff ahead of what is a hugely exciting period for the national team. It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to work with such a talented group of players, and it certainly will help to already know some of them well through our time together in domestic cricket,” Read said following his appointment.

“It’s also a privilege to be asked to be part of Scotland’s first appearance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The recent success of the team has been incredible to witness from afar, and hopefully we can continue that during the next few weeks and make a big impact on the global stage.”

Scotland will begin their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign against Bangladesh on October 3 in Sharjah. They are placed in Group B, where they will also face the West Indies (October 6), South Africa (October 9), and England (October 13).
