After the 2024 T20 World Cup, Australia will return to action in international cricket with a three-match T20I series versus Scotland. This will be a dress rehearsal for the one-time T20 WC winners before their white-ball tour of England, which follows soon after the Scotland trip. Prior to this, both Scotland and Australia have met each other only once in T20Is, during this year’s T20 WC in West Indies and the USA in June.

In the mega event, Australia and Scotland were placed in Group B, along with England, Oman and Namibia. The two clashed on June 16 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. Asked to bat first, Scotland rode on opener George Munsey’s 35, Brandon McMullen’s 60 and captain Richie Berrington’s 42, respectively, to post a challenging 180 for 5. In reply, Scotland reduced Australia to 60-3. While Travis Head made 68, his side had a lot to do in the latter half of the run-chase. Marcus Stoinis (59) and Tim David (14-ball 24*), however, stood tall to take their side past the finish line by five wickets, and two balls to spare.

It will be interesting to see if Scotland challenges Mitchell Marsh-led Australia this time around as well. For the Scotland series, Australia have rested the likes of Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc. The former will not be part of the England tour too but Maxwell and Starc will return.

The first T20I will be held on Sep 4, followed by the second and penultimate game on Sep 6 and the third T20I on Sep 7. All the games will be held in Edinburgh.
