Scotland v Poland preview

Scotland return to international action this weekend with a Nations League clash against Poland at Hampden Park, in what will be their first match since their unsuccessful Euro 2024 campaign in Germany last summer.

Steve Clarke’s side failed to make it out of the group stage at the Euros, picking up just one point from their three matches in Group A which extended the country’s unwanted record of never having reached the knockout stage of a major competition.

The team returns to action in front of the Tartan Army on Thursday night as they take part in League A of the Nations League for the first time following their promotion from Group B1 of their last campaign in September 2022.

The Scots have won just one of their last 12 games ahead of Thursday’s clash, which came against Gibraltar, and will travel to Lisbon after Thursday night’s game to take on Portugal in their second of six matches in the Nations League, taking on the final team in the group next month, Croatia.

Poland also suffered a disappointing exit from Euro 2024 in the summer, also finishing bottom of their group with just one point from their three matches, having been drawn into the ‘Group of Death’ alongside France, the Netherlands and Austria.

Michal Probierz’s side will get back to action in Glasgow on Thursday night and will back themselves to return home with a positive result against, on paper, the weakest time in the group, as they look to maintain their League A status once again.

The Poles had gone eight matches unbeaten in all competitions prior to the start of their Euros campaign this summer, and will be hoping to a promising 1-1 draw with France in their last match of the group stage can be the start of a new run.

Five of the last six matches between Scotland and Poland have ended in draws, with the most recent meeting ending 1-1 at Hampden Park in March 2022, which leaves the Scots unbeaten over Thursday’s opponents since 1980, and without defeat at home against the Poles since 1965, 59 years ago.

📝 Scotland v Poland betting tips

With Scotland unbeaten against Poland in 44 years, Steve Clarke’s men will back themselves to secure victory in front of the Tartan Army at home for the first time since the Euros, and Betfred’s offer of Scotland to win and both teams to score at 4/1 looks a tempter.
