Scotland to face Greece, Belarus and Portugal or Denmark in World Cup qualifiers

Steve Clarke trained his sights on a long-awaited return to the global stage after learning Scotland’s qualifying opponents for the 2026 World Cup finals in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Scotland were drawn into a four-team group alongside Greece, Belarus and the defeated side in the Nations League quarter-final between Portugal and Denmark.

The qualifiers will begin in September, with all group matches concluding in November 2025.

Despite qualifying for the last two Euros — most recently in Germany in the summer — Scotland have not played in a World Cup finals since France 1998.

“When I spoke after the tournament in the summer, I said that one of my main remaining ambitions is to go to a World Cup with my country,” Clarke
