Scotland to benefit as Euro 2024 squads expanded
Steve Clarke’s options will grow going into Euro 2024 as Uefa is to confirm that national managers can name a squad of 26 players for the tournament instead of 23.
The Scotland boss had hoped for the expansion and Uefa’s national teams committee came to the same conclusion. The move is expected to be ratified by Uefa’s executive committee next month.
That is encouraging for players on the fringes of the squad who were anxious about the prospect of being picked for the Euros in Germany. Ironically Clarke’s numbers had actually looked a little thinner because of recent injuries, with Lewis Ferguson out, Nathan Patterson unlikely to make it and doubts over Aaron Hickey, Stuart Armstrong, Grant Hanley and Jacob Brown.
