Scotland skipper Andy Robertson sends rallying cry to team-mates

PUMPED-UP skipper Andy Robertson marched into Munich last night — and told his Scotland mates: Let’s become legends.

The man who has captained his country more than any other in history is bursting with pride as he counts down the minutes to tonight’s monumental Euros opener against hosts Germany.

Robbo said: “We have so many incentives here, but becoming a legendary squad is the biggest.

“That’s what has to drive us forward, the thought of being the first Scotland team to make a knockout round.

“We want to make history. We know what’s at stake.

“What’s the worst that can happen? We join the list of teams who haven’t got out of a group?

“So let’s go for it. And if we respect for the host nation, hopefully on the night we can cause them problems.

“We feel as though we can get a good result every time we step on to the pitch. Otherwise, what’s the point in going on there?

“We feel we’re ready and hopefully you’ll see that on Friday night.

“They are all good. There is an edge there now.

“I could sense that edge growing in training. I’d actually be disappointed if it wasn’t there. So it’s been nice to see.”

Asked if the enormity of being part of the opening game at Euro 2024 had sunk in, Clarke added: “No, but that’s just me. That’s the way I am.

“It’s a big game, but for us it’s the opening match of a four-team section so we’ll have three matches.

“We know what we have to do to qualify out of the section and that’s what we’re focused on.”

With over 100,000 Scotland supporters expected to be in Munich tonight the tension is growing.

And Clarke added: “We know the fans are here in their numbers to support us. We know they are going to be right behind us in every minute of every game.

“That’s important. We’ve had a taste of that in Garmisch-Partenkirchen where we are based.

“It made the walk to training more enjoyable.

“I know there are many more here in Germany who we haven’t seen and I hope they enjoy themselves.”

Scott McTominay has been passed fit to start against Germany after returning to full training.
