Scotland set to take on Serbia at Firhill in final Euro 2025 qualifier
Scotland Women are preparing to take on Serbia at Firhill as they continue their journey towards a potential place at Euro 2025.
Pedro Martinez Losa’s side are already guaranteed a play-off spot but can secure their place as group winners if they avoid defeat in Glasgow on Tuesday night.
A draw would also be enough to gain promotion to the Nations League Group A and give their hopes of reaching the World Cup in 2027 a welcome boost as a result.
The national team currently sit at the top of Group B2 on goal-difference with them and the Serbians both on 13 points going into the final group match.
Both sides have won all their group games other than a 0-0 draw played out between the pair in Serbia back in April in the opening game of the group.
Losa’s side then beat Slovakia 1-0 at Hampden in April.
Scotland secured their place in the play-offs with back-to-back comfortable wins over Israel in May and June.
Martha Thomas scored as the Israelis were thrashed 5-0 in Hungary, which was followed up by a 2-0 away win in Slovakia.
The 13 points already won means Scotland and Serbia will be seeded for the play-off stage no matter the result in Maryhill.
They will take on one of the unseeded teams from Group B in the first round of the play-offs and will advance to the play-off finals if they win that.
In the final round seven seeded teams from the first round will play seven unseeded teams for a place at the European Championships.
A total of 28 teams will enter the play-off stage with seven of those advancing to the tournament being held in Switzerland next summer.
However Scotland could also start looking further ahead if they get a draw or better against Serbia as that would mean promotion to Nations League Group A for the World Cup qualifiers.
Group A winners and best second placed teams will qualify directly for the World Cup in Brazil in three years time, while the rest will automatically enter the play-off stage.
