Scotland qualify for Rugby World Cup 2025 – Scottish Rugby

This marks Scotland’s seventh appearance at a Rugby World Cup since it was established in 1991 and is the first time they have appeared at back-to-back World Cups since 2006 and 2010. The Scots now join New Zealand, England, Canada, France, Australia, Brazil, Ireland, South Africa, Japan, USA, and Fiji – who previously qualified via regional tournaments.

The final teams to have qualified, on completion of WXV 2 and WXV 3 are: Italy, Wales, Spain and Samoa.

Scotland missed out on retaining the WXV 2 title after losing out to Australia in the final round of the competition, narrowly defeated 31-22 in an eight-try thriller in Cape Town.

Scotland had won their two other tournament games over Italy and Japan, with the Scots recording their first ever shut out against the Italian (0-19).

All eyes will now turn to the Rugby World Cup draw, which will be held at the BBC’s Broadcasting House and broadcast live on The One Show, one of the UK’s most-watched primetime programmes, airing from 6pm BST on Thursday 17 October.

This marks a key milestone for the tournament, set to be the largest sporting event in England in 2025. For those outside the UK, the draw will be streamed live at 6.20pm BST on RugbyPass TV.

Following the draw, the match schedule will be released on Tuesday 22 October.
