Scotland name strong 15-member squad for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

Scotland Women’s National Cricket Team have named a strong 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be played in the United Arab Emirates. Kathryn Bryce will lead the team, who will be playing in the tournament for the first time.

Skipper Kathryn Bryce will be making a comeback to the team having last played for the team in the T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 in May this year. She was the major reason behind the team qualifying for the tournament as she mustered 177 runs and also picked 9 wickets.

Sarah Bryce, who is captain’s sister, will be the vice-captain of the team in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Scotland has also named experienced leg-spinner Abtaha Maqsood to the squad. The spinner recently captained the team and guided them to victory in the Netherlands tri-series.

Scotland have plenty of all-rounders in the team including skipper Kathryn Bryce, Priyanaz Chatterji, Katherine Fraser, and Megan McColl. They will be vital for the tournament and a lot would be dependant on the way they contribute to the team with bat and ball.

Here’s the Scotland squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024:

Kathryn Bryce (c), Sarah Bryce (vc), Lorna Jack-Brown, Abbi Aitken-Drummond, Abtaha Maqsood, Saskia Horley, Chloe Abel, Priyanaz Chatterji, Megan McColl, Darcey Carter, Ailsa Lister, Hannah Rainey, Rachel Slater, Katherine Fraser, Olivia Bell.

The make-up and balance of this squad is outstanding – Scotland Women’s National Cricket Team head coach Craig Wallace

Scotland Women’s National Cricket Team head coach Craig Wallace talked about the balance of the team, saying that they have got match winners right from start to end. He highlighted the hard work put in by the players and stressed that players picked by them can win the World Cup. He added:

“The make-up and balance of this squad is outstanding. We’ve got match-winners from start to finish within it, which I think is the big difference in the evolution of this squad during my short tenure.

“People have been putting in crucial performances each time they step onto the field, and that runs right the way through the squad.

“While it was really tough, it was also actually enjoyable to select this squad, looking back at many of those great performances, and we know all 15 players can go out there and win cricket matches for us at the World Cup.”

The head coach further said that he is excited to see what lies ahead for the team and they are confident of winning games in the tournament. He elaborated:

“I am so excited about what lies ahead. If we behave and play the way we have done during the last year, who knows what can happen at the World Cup – we could win as many games as we want to.

“The players play a great brand of cricket, and have so much belief in themselves, so the possibilities are limitless, really.”

Scotland are placed in Group B along with England, South Africa, West Indies, and Bangladesh. They would be keen to make an impact in the tournament.
