Scotland legend Gary McAllister says Steve Clarke’s men can provide Euros shock

FORMER Scotland captain Gary McAllister is convinced Scotland have the quality to make the Euro 2024 knockout stages.

McAllister suffered heartache at Euro 92 and Euro 96 as the Scots came up short in the group stages, including an infamous penalty miss against England at Wembley.

McAllister, who won 57 caps for Scotland between 1990 and 1999, is full of belief this time round.

Speaking to Betway, he said: “We’ve had some good results in qualifying, managing to defeat Spain and Norway.

“Steve Clarke’s done brilliantly well to get us there and I’m really hopeful because obviously we don’t get into a major tournament every time.

“When we do we’ve never got through the qualifying group – but I think we’re capable.

“I think in that opening game, we won’t be favourites, but the German national team has gone through probably one of its worst periods ever.

“They come into it under the pressure of being the host as well.

“We could cause an upset, but then we need to back it up with the games against the other sides who won’t be as well fancied as the Germans.”

Scotland are heading into the tournament following a record-breaking qualification campaign, starting with five wins on the bounce.

However, Steve Clarke‘s men have seen a poor run of form since, and are without a win in their last SEVEN outings.

With a friendly against Finland to come after the Gibraltar game before hopping on the plane to Munich, Steve Clarke‘s men will be hoping to head into the tournament on a high note.
