Scotland learn opposition for next year’s Rugby World Cup

The draw for the tournament, which kicks off in August, was made yesterday (Thursday) on the BBC One Show.

Scotland captain Rachel Malcolm, who will, hopefully, be joined in the squad by Musselburgh’s Francesca McGhie, said: “None of those pools are easy but looking at our pool we’re super excited.

“What’s evident straight away is that the four teams play different styles of rugby.

“Canada are definitely a force to be reckoned with, they’re probably going to be our biggest challenge but equally we know Fiji play a very quick brand of rugby so we have to be ready for that and we know the challenge that a very physical Wales team bring so we’re excited for it.”

Scotland last faced Canada at Scotstoun in Glasgow in November 2018 going down 28-25.

Wales are more regular foes, coming up against them in the Women’s Six Nations on an annual basis.

Earlier this year, Scotland won 40-14 in Edinburgh.

Finally, Scotland played Fiji for the first time in their history earlier this year.

Scotland clocked up nine tries, with McGhie among the scorers, on their way to a 59-10 win at Edinburgh’s Hive Stadium.
