Scotland lead T20 World Cup group after win over Oman

AP:

BRANDON MCMULLEN hit an undefeated 61 in 31 balls – including two sixes and nine fours – as Scotland beat Oman by seven wickets with 41 deliveries remaining at North Sound, Antigua, to register their second T20 World Cup win in Group B.

Oman chose to bat first yesterday and scored 150-7, with Pratik Athavale (54 in 40) and Ayaan Khan (41 not out in 39) dominating the innings.

Scotland’s Mark Watt, Brad Wheal, Chris Sole, and Chris Greaves took one wicket apiece in an all-round bowling performance. Safyaan Sharif, though on the expensive side, his four overs costing 40 runs, grabbed two wickets.

Scotland comfortably reached 153-3 in 13.1 overs. Opener George Munsey scored a 20-ball 41 with four sixes.

Oman’s bowlers were put to the sword, with only Bilal Khan with 1-12 from two overs, and Kaleemullah, whose two overs cost 17, escaping with some dignity.

Aqib Ilyas, 1-41, also got a share of the three wickets, with the 16-run over of Mehran Khan, 1-16, accounting for the other.

Scotland, who got a point from their washed-out opener against England, beat Namibia on Thursday and top the group with five points from three games. Last-place Oman have lost three games.
