Scotland hold star studded Portugal to 0-0 draw at Hampden – PLZ Soccer

Scotland battled to an impressive 0-0 draw with a star studded Portugal side, a result which left talisman Cristiano Ronaldo visibly frustrated.

The iconic red and green Portuguese colours peppered the Navy Blue night as Ronaldo fever was in the air at Hampden Park. He was embraced with typical Scottish humour with his opening touches booed to the heavens by the home crowd.

Those jeers almost turned to cheers when Scott McTominay was found in space in the penalty box but his header didn’t have enough on it to test Diogo Costa between the Portugal posts.

The visitors began to turn the screw as the half wore on with Steve Clarke’s side working hard to stay defensively sound without having much on offer going in the other direction.

There were signs of agitation from CR7 as he searched for international goal 124 with the same vigour as if it was his first.

The Tartan Army roared their side forward as Scotland looked to come up for air from the constant Portuguese pressure. Anthony Ralston almost picked out McTominay on the break for another famous Hampden moment.

Craig Gordon didn’t have many touches over the course of the evening despite Portugal’s attacking prowess but the 41-year old produced an excellent reflex save from Bruno Fernandes with minutes left to spare Scotland from another late defeat.

Nicky Devlin came on for his Scotland debut and was the latest to throw his body on the line as waves of attack continued but were to no avail.
