Scotland fans’ Euro misery complete as Georgia reach last 16 at first tournament

IT’S been a humbling tournament for Scotland fans – who saw their hopes of reaching the last 16 for the first time ever crushed in agonising fashion on Sunday night.

That’s despite trailing Steve Clarke‘s men by a whopping NINE points back in our qualification group.

The Scots beat Georgia in a rain-soaked night in Glasgow – then got a point in Tbilisi when we had already qualified as we finished with 17 points to Georgia’s nine.

But the nation with a population of 3.7m – but blessed with the star power of Napoli‘s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – made it through their Nations League play-off.

And they’ve just upset the applecart in a big way with a 2-0 win over Portugal.

That books their spot in the last 16, while Scotland‘s players have already returned home after finishing rock bottom in Group A.

Comedian Mark Nelson wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Every result makes things more and more damning for Steve Clarke and Scotland.

“Georgia, in their first ever tournament are going through because they actually tried to play football.”

Another fan wrote: “Georgia’s first ever tournament and they’ve still made it out the group more times than Scotland have in 12 attempts.”

A third wrote: “Incredible that Cyprus were the only team Georgia managed to beat during the Euro qualifiers (and that they finished nine points behind Scotland).”
