Scotland Euros star set for EPL switch – by joining former club’s local rivals

CHE ADAMS is set to make a quick return to the Premier League this summer – but not with newly-promoted Southampton, according to a report.

The Scotland Euros star, who netted in the 2-0 friendly win against Gibraltar on Monday, is out of contract at the end of this month and looks set to leave St Mary’s in the coming weeks.

The Saints confirmed this week that Scotland pal Stuart Armstrong will definitely depart after confirming his exit to fans.

The club also revealed that they are in talks with Adams and Celtic transfer target Alex McCarthy over a new deal but reports suggest they will lose out on the striker, with one of their rivals next season leading the race to land him.

It will see the 27-year-old return to the top flight after spending last season in the Championship with Southampton.

Two Premier League clubs are said to be interested in signing the striker so it’s increasingly likely that he will face his old club next season.

Earlier reports claimed that Nottingham Forest were in the driving seat to snap him up following successful discussions with the player.

But now it’s being reported that Forest are set to miss out on Adams, with Wolves now in the driving seat.

That’s according to the Daily Record – who claim the striker is closing in on a big-money move to the Molineux club – a local rival of his former team Birmingham – when his Southampton contract expires.

Wolves attempted to sign the striker in a deadline day swoop last summer but they had an £18million offer booted out by the Saints.

Now Gary O’Neil looks set to finally land his long-term target for a cut-price on a free transfer.

Adams scored 18 goals in the Championship last season and will be hoping to add to his tally in the top division in the coming months.

He has been a key player for Steve Clarke since switching his allegiance to the Tartan Army in 2021.

The striker has been capped on 40 occasions and has netted six times since then and will be hoping to score his first goal at an international tournament in Germany.

He will likely be Clarke’s main man in attack – after Lyndon Dykes‘ blow – but will be competing with HeartsLawrence Shankland for the starting spot.

Bristol City ace Tommy Conway has also been called up to replace Dykes but he will be third in line in Germany.
