Scotland Euros star back in action tomorrow – less than a week after Hungary woe
LEWIS MORGAN is set for an immediate return to action with New York Red Bulls tomorrow night – less than a week after Scotland crashed out of Euro 2024.
Morgan has been back training with his club in the Big Apple and is in contention for the MLS visit of D.C. United.
Morgan was one of a number of Scotland stars used sparingly by Steve Clarke during our disappointing Euro 2024 outing.
He featured as an 89th minute substitute in last Sunday’s agonising 1-0 defeat to Hungary as Steve Clarke’s side finished bottom of Group A.
And Red Bulls boss Sandro Schwarz is delighted to have the former Celtic and St Mirren forward available for selection for the match which kicks off at half past midnight UK time.
He said: “It is good that Lewis Morgan is here, he has had training sessions so it is good we have that competition in the team.

“We have a bigger group for our training session.
“As a club coach, every club coach in the MLS wants to play with the best starting line up.”
Morgan’s return comes as most other members of Clarke’s squad will benefit from a couple of extra weeks’ grace before returning to club duty.
The first tranche of Celtic‘s first team stars returned to training at the end of this week – but those with international duty over the summer will be allowed a phased return.
Morgan is raring to get on with his career – after coming through potentially career-ending surgery.
The New York Red Bulls attacker was only given an 80 per cent of returning to football at all post-surgery, as well as a 20 to 25 per cent chance of making it back to his top level.
But the 27-year-old harnessed his anxiety to fuel his recovery.
Morgan said: “I started to pick up a lot of hip strains, so we knew surgery was in the background.
“But I wanted to give everything I could to avoid it.
“I re-injured myself three, four, maybe five times, and each time the severity got worse and it culminated in a really bad tear – which is supposedly unheard of.
“I had the surgery, which involved almost a complete reshaping of my hip. It was quite intense.
“As soon as the surgery was over, all the pain that I’d had was almost gone and then it was just about recovering and getting back.”
