Scotland Euro 2024 squad recreated in 3D-printed chess set

Scotland’s Euro 2024 squad have been recreated on a chess board by two Glasgow engineers ahead of the summer tournament in Germany.

The limited-edition 3D-printed set features the likes of Scotland captain Andy Robertson as the King, John McGinn as the Bishop and Steve Clarke as the Queen.

Celtic’s Callum McGregor is the Rook and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay the Knight, with the Euro 2024 trophy the Pawn of the set.

3D Scotland, who previously created similar sets themed around the Old Firm derby, used MLSA printing technology to create the figures etched on the board.

Michael O’Donnell and Alex Duff, graduates of the University of Glasgow and the Glasgow School of Art, created the set to “pay tribute to the standout players of Scotland’s exhilarating run to the Euros”.

Michael O’Donnell, co-founder of 3D Scotland, said: “This chess set is a celebration of Scotland’s football achievements and our pride in the national team.

“We wanted to create something that fans could cherish and use to remember this fantastic moment in our sporting history.”

Alex Duff, co-founder, added: “We’ve taken great care to ensure each piece is not only a work of art but also a functional chess piece.

“The combination of iconic footballers and state of the art 3D printing technology has resulted in a truly special product that we are incredibly proud of.”

The Scotland Euro 2024 chess set is available to purchase at £169.99, with a mini set available for £74.99 via the 3D Scotland website and other retailers.
