Scotland defender Scott McKenna makes move to La Liga side

Scotland international Scott McKenna has secured a move to Las Palmas ahead of the new Spanish season.

The centre-back was a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of last season and had been linked with a return to Scotland.

He’s now signed a three-year deal with Las Palmas and will be aiming to play regular first team football in the Spanish top flight for the side from Gran Canaria.

McKenna began his career at Aberdeen and moved to Forest for a club record fee in 2020. The defender was their player of the year as promotion to the Premier League was won two years later.

He played 25 times in the English top flight but after finding game time difficult to come by, he moved to Copenhagen on loan for the second half of last season.

While in Denmark McKenna gained Champions League experience, facing Manchester City twice.

The 27-year-old has 37 international caps for Scotland and was part of Steve Clarke’s squad for the Euros in Germany.

McKenna will be reunited with former international teammate Oli McBurnie at Las Palmas, who are looking to improve on last season’s 16th-place finish in La Liga.
