Three wickets for Brad Wheal and an unbeaten 47 from captain Richie Berrington keep the Scots part of the conversation to qualify from Group B

Barbados: Namibia 155-9, Scotland 157-4 – Scotland won by five wickets

Scotland captain Richie Berrington led from the front to help beat Namibia in the Men’s T20 World Cup in Barbados.

Berrington lashed an unbeaten 47 from 35 balls as the Scots chased 156 to win with nine deliveries and five wickets in hand.

Brads Wheal and Currie had earlier shared five wickets as Namibia, unbeaten in the three previous full internationals between the nations, were limited to 155 for 9 after choosing to bat first.

It was a fine display of leadership which ensured they had a total to bowl at, with Gerhard Erasmus cracking 52 from 31 balls as he and Zane Green (27) put on 51 for the fifth wicket.

But they were unable to build on that platform as Wheal and Currie returned at the death and helped inspire a collapse of four wickets for 14 runs.

Tangeni Lungameni and Erasmus shared three wickets as Scotland were reduced to 73 for 4 through 11 overs.

But that brought Berrington and Michael Leask to the crease and they put on 74 in 42 balls with a decisive, punishing partnership to take the game away from the Namibians.

Leask (35) departed with nine runs still needed for victory and Berrington obliged by whacking a maximum over long-on to start the celebrations.

Oman are the next opponent for Scotland on Sunday (June 9) in Antigua before a pivotal meeting with Australia in St Lucia on June 16.
