Scotland beat Israel in Euros qualifier amid pre-match protests
Scotland have defeated Israel 4-1 in the Euro 2025 qualifier at Hampden amid pre-match protests in Glasgow.
The game was played behind closed doors at the national stadium after fears over potential protests against Israel’s ongoing military action in Gaza.
And kick-off had to be delayed after one protester managed to chain himself to the goal-posts.
Once the game got underway Scotland took charge of proceedings and got themselves three goals up by half-time.
The result means the national team have one foot in the play-offs for the European Championships being held in Switzerland next summer.
They are now seven points ahead of Israel in Group B2 with only three games remaining and three sides from the four team group progressing.
Claire Emslie opened the scoring to put the hosts 1-0 up before Kirsty Hanson doubled the lead.
Emslie found the net again in the first-half to give Pedro Martinez Losa’s side a comfortable 3-0 lead going into half-time.
Martha Thomas converted from the penalty spot to make it 4-0 on the hour mark and all-but secure the three-points would be staying in Scotland.
Talia Sommer pulled one back with a late consolation strike in the 83rd minute to make it 4-1 going into the closing stages.
The win means Scotland only need a point against Israel on Tuesday, in a match that will be played in Budapest, Hungary, to guarantee a play-off place.
