Scotland ace makes £4.5m switch after transfer saga involving Rangers and Celtic

SCOTLAND star Tommy Conway has left Bristol City for a new club, according to a report.

The 22-year-old, who received a late call-up to the Euros this summer, had been linked with a switch to either Rangers or Celtic after a stellar season with Bristol City.

Conway scored ten goals in the Championship for the Robins and added another two in the FA Cup, earning him a seat on the plane to Germany after Steve Clarke lost Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak to injury.

All summer long the belief has been that Conway wouldn’t sign a new deal at Ashton Gate, which was due to expire at the end of this season.

That meant Bristol City were faced with cashing in on their prized asset now or losing him for nothing next year.

According to Sky Sports, he has now joined Middlesbrough for a fee in the region of £4.5m.

It’s being reported that he will undergo at medical with the Riverside club tomorrow.

In terms of interest from the Old Firm, Celtic have been chasing Adam Idah ever since he went back to Norwich on the back of scoring the winner in the Scottish Cup final.

And tonight they finally welcomed back last season’s loan star on a permanent deal.

Rangers signed Moroccan starlet Hamza Igamane earlier in the window but boss Philippe Clement has said he is a few weeks’ away from being ready to play.

That leaves only Cyriel Dessers and Danilo as main strikers, with the latter causing an untimely stir before the Dynamo Kyiv game last night as he was spotted “limping” at Hampden.

Clement rushed to assure fans there was nothing to worry about, however.

Conway is the second Scotland striker to switch clubs this summer after Che Adams swapped Southampton for Serie A and joined Torino.

And Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland could yet still be on the move.
